Ratings: Broadcast Finals for January 7, 2013
NBC premieres the first new series of 2013 and the results are mixed. DECEPTION drew 5.7 million viewer and a 2.0 rating in Adults 18-49. That is a loss of 12% in viewers and 17% in the demo, from its THE BIGGEST LOSER lead in. It did edge out CASTLE for the demo win in the hour, but that was the only competition with HAWAII FIVE-0 airing an encore episode. I expect DECEPTION to fall deep into third place once all three networks are airing original episodes, head-to-head.Earlier in the evening, THE BIGGEST LOSER kicked of the night for NBC with 6.4 million viewers and a 2.4 demo rating. That translate into a lose of 9% in total viewers and 20% in the demo rating. What looked like a promising season on Sunday night, now looks to be a struggle. Once CBS and FOX bring original episodes, TBL will drop even further in the ratings.
ABC was the only other network to air all original episodes on Monday night, with the season premiere of THE BACHELOR. Although the numbers are not impressive, the 6.9 million viewers and a 2.3 demo rating are not horrible either. For the most part, THE BACHELOR was only down slightly from last year's season premiere.
CASTLE felt the hit of not having a huge lead in to help with the numbers. It was down 1.5 million viewers from its last original episode after DWTS. The numbers are an improvement from the EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION lead in it had in December.
And finally, FOX finally ended THE MOB DOCTOR as it aired its last episode. Just 3.3 million viewers tuned in to watch what should have been the first cancellation of the season. Things can only improve once THE FOLLOWING takes over the time slot later this month.
