2011-12 Ratings Review: TOUCH

TOUCH had a very promising start. Its special preview in January, it drew an impressive 12 million viewers and a 3.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Even a repeat of that special preview, two months later, drew over  8.5 million viewers. The first episode in its regular time period, Thursdays at 9:00pm, it posted a 3.3 demo rating and drew 11.8 million viewers. It starting to look as if FOX had finally found a new drama that would click with the viewers.

Over the course of April, TOUCH was averaging just 8 million viewers and a sub-par 2.3 demo rating. The numbers were now close to that of what THE FINDER was getting in the time slot just a couple of months before.

When May arrived, the ratings only got worse. Now the series was struggling to attract 6 million viewers and had dipped below a 2.0 demo rating. Its was now looking bleak for TOUCH to be renewed for a second season and its season finally had been pushed to after the May Sweeps period.

Before the season finaly, TOUCH got the good news, along with the bad. The good news is that it was renewed for a second season. The bad news is that it will move to Friday nights, death night.

For the season finale, the ratings were series lows. Just 4.6 million viewers and a FRINGE like demo rating of 1.3.

I don't expect TOUCH to go beyond 13 episodes next season, so if you are a fan, you better watch it while you can.
