US Box Office: Top Ten Movies in Q1, 2016
It has been a very productive first three months for the domestic box office. We already have four films grossing over $200 million, with the R rated DEADPOOL leading the way with over $350 million, in 2016. Holiday holdover, STAR WARS: TFA had plenty of legs in 2016, grabbing $282 million of its total $934 million, in the calendar year. Following ZOOTOPIA, at #3, was the just released BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. It only took it six days to grab $209 million.
Two animated films make it in the top ten, Disney's ZOOTOPIA grossed $255 million, and still doing well. The FOX release of KUNG FU PANDA 3 topped the $100 million marj, hauling in $139 million.
Of the ten films on the list, three were released in 2015. DADDY'S HOME and THE REVENANT join STAR WARS for a combined $550 million since January 1, 2016.
