US Box Office Results: January 2 - 4, 2015

The first movie weekend of the year featured the same top three movies from last week's chart. THE HOBBIT raked in another $22 million, for the number one spot. The final chapter of the trilogy has now brought in over 220.7 million.

UNBROKEN and INTO THE WOOD flipped positions, with the fantasy film rising one spot, to #2. Both films dropped about 35%, from last week, a relatively strong week-to-week change.

The lone new release in the top 10 was THE WOMAN IN BLACK 2, in the #4 spot. The sequel brought in over $15 million, on the weekend . That is down nearly six million dollars from the first film's opening weekend.

THE IMITATION GAME was the only release to score over a $10,000 per screen average, this weekend. Its $8.1 million take was generated in under 800 screens. It nearly doubled the per screen average from that of THE HOBBIT's $5,700 average.
