TV News Roundup: March 8, 2014

FOX Renews Three Series:
Comedies NEW GIRL, THE MINDY PROJECT and BROOKLYN NINE-NINE, plus dark drama THE FOLLOWING, all received season renewals, by FOX, for the 2014-15 TV season. The join already renewed series GLEE, BONES and SLEEPY HOLLOW.

I get the renewal of NEW GIRL, for future syndication, and BROOKLYN 9-9 as the best new comedy the network has, but I do not understand why THE MINDY PROJECT got a third season. It is one of the worst performing series on the network. This season, with the Tuesday comedy block, it was consistently the worst drawing comedy of the four programs. This ranks right up there, as a bone-head move, with the two year renewal of GLEE, which still has a year left.

Aereo has Setback in Court:
The 10th circuit court of appeals upheld the preliminary injunction on Aereo from a Utah district judge. Aereo will have to shut down services in both Utah and Denver, to comply with the injunction. Aereo is still looking forward to the Supreme Court appearance in April.

CNBC Show Cancelled:
THE KUDLOW REPORT was cancelled by CNBC and will air it's last episode later this month. Larry Kudlow will remain with the network as a correspondent.

NBC Wants Exclusivity for TONIGHT SHOW Guests:
Something we have not seen since the early days of the Leno vs Letterman, NBC is reportedly demand that future guests of the THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JIMMY FALLON be exclusive to NBC, meaning no ABC or CBS, and presumably, no TBS/CONAN.
