Ratings: Broadcast Finals for January 8, 2014
NBC may have placed second on the night, but the combination of old and new crime dramas may be the combination for the night.
At 9 p.m., LAW & ORDER: SVU aired it's first original episode in six weeks and posted it's best numbers since the season premiere, grabbing 8.8 million viewers and a 2.1 demo rating. That led into the series premiere of the CHICAGO PD, a spin-off of CHICAGO FIRE. The new crime drama held 98% of the SVU audience and lost just one tenth of a ratings point in the A18-49 numbers. If viewers liked what they saw from CHICAGO PD, CSI will have run for it's money when it returns to new episodes.
CBS was the top network on the night, thanks to the PEOPLE CHOICE AWARDS, which drew the most viewers, 10.4 million, and the #2 program in the A18-49 ratings, with a 2.4 mark.
ABC had a mixed night of programming as the veteran sitcoms THE MIDDLE and MODERN FAMILY did well in the ratings, but a double dose of SUPER FUN NIGHT did not sit well with ABC viewers. Getting both veteran comedies as lead ins for it's two, split episodes, SUPER FUN NIGHT basically lost 50%, or more of the audience it was delivered
