2013 Commercial Cost Survey: CBS
AdWeek has released the 2013 fall commercial cost survey, detailing the average cost of one network commercial spot for each of the shows from this season's fall schedule. We take a look at the CBS chart of the commercial survey.
The CBS survey chart look very similar to how it does in the ratings. Very strong, consistent numbers, but with only a couple big guns and few weak links. The Monday through Thursday pricing is all above $100k, with exception of the just cancelled WE ARE MEN. With that gone and MIKE & MOLLY back, it will be $100k+ across the board.
The networks biggest gainer, from 2012 prices, is THE BIG BANG THEORY with a $51,000 per spot increase for the 2013-14 season. TBBT is also has the most expensive commercial price tag ($326k) of any scripted series, making it #2 over all, behind SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL.
The biggest drop in pricing is 2 BROKE GIRLS. It cut its per spot ad rate by $91,000. And, it could be cutting it even more as this season's early numbers had been disappointing.
As Live+SD ratings continue to fall, lower ad rates will be the norm, each and every year. Revenues are a;ready being compensated by the cable companies paying higher subscriber rates, via out higher cable bills. Creative scripting and corporate deals are also increasing as we see in-show product placement.
