2013 Commercial Cost Survey: ABC
AdWeek has released the 2013 fall commercial cost survey, detailing the average cost of one network commercial spot for each of the shows from this season's fall schedule. Here is a look at the ABC chart of advertising costs per spot.
ABC, the #4 network, placed just six series in the top 30 most expensive commercial spots chart. MODERN FAMILY is the top series for the network as it charges over $257,000 per commercial spot. That is good enough for #4 overall, behind SNF, THE VOICE and THE BIG BANG THEORY. But as good as that seems, that price is down 22%, or $74,000, per spot. The largest drop by any show on ABC.
DANCING WITH THE STARS is not the show, or revenue generator, it once was. It is down $64,000 per spot from last year and a whopping $139,000 from just two years earlier.
The two veteran Thursday night drama each command $200k+ for a commercial spot. But while GREY'S ANATOMY's price is d=trending downward, SCANDAL is moving upward, rapidly. The third year series jumped $61,000 per spot to advertisers. That is the biggest increase from the network's offerings.
The survey from Adweek did not include Saturday programming, but the 2012 survey from AdAge shows Saturday football getting over $103,000 per spot.
