Ratings: Broadcast Finals for January 29, 2013
With death, comes new life. With the cancellation of BEN & KATE, NEW GIRL posted its best ratings since October 23, 2012, generating 4.7 million (#2) viewers and a 2.6 rating (#2) in Adults 18-49. This is about a 15% jump from last week's numbers even though NCIS: LA was in repeats last week. There is truly Addition through subtraction.
CBS roared back with new episode for all three of its dramas. NCIS lead the charge with over 22 million viewers and a night's best 3.8 demo rating. This should hold up to be the top rated program of the week, behind the network's Super Bowl coverage on Sunday.
Week two of the taste did not do so well. The 4.8 million viewers and 1.6 demo rating are roughly 23% below last week's two hour premiere. It is a typical slide for new programs, but the numbers were not that strong to begin with. However, it is making the dismal fall numbers by DWTS look not that bad.
And speaking of bad... ABC and NBC both did horrible in the 9:00 p.m. hour with their respective "comedies." ABC gave us not just one, but two new episodes of HAPPY ENDINGS. The two episodes averaged 2.9 million viewers and a 1.3 demo rating. Not much different than what HAPPY ENDINGS and the now cancelled APT. 23 did two weeks ago.
NBC, not to be out done by ABC, pulled in numbers just as bad for GO ON and THE NEW NORMAL. Both of these comedies were beat by HAPPY ENDINGS in the demo, for the hour. I am all for more comedies on TV, but if this is what the networks thinks we want, then give me more Cop shows and reality programs.
For the night, CBS dominated the night, averaging 16.7 million viewers and a 2.9 demo rating. FOX came in second in the demo ratings with a 1.9, but only edged ABC for third place in total viewers, with 3.8 million. ABC and NBC both posted demo ratings of 1.3 (fitting), but NBC did draw more viewers, 4.6 vs. 3.6 million. The CW came in with 1.3 million viewers and a 0.5 demo number.

Actually, the increase in the ratings for New Girl had more to do with the hugely popular main couple, Nick and Jess, sharing a FIRST kiss together. Their kiss was heavily advertised in the promos/previews by FOX network!!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe, but we shall see next week if ratings go back to where they were or stay up/rise without the horrid BEN AND KATE.
