Ratings Archives: Week of November 10, 1997
First off, Apparently when I first archived this, 16 years ago, USA Today had the ratings chart in one column and when I cut it out to put on an 8x10 sheet, I reversed the order of the column. So Reading left to right, like normal people, you will have Friday - Sunday, then the middle of the week and then Monday on the right side. So, just a heads up when trying to read the archived sheet.
After the three weeks that include the 1997 November sweeps period, NBC has won just one week. CBS edges NBC to take this week on the strength of its Sunday line up of 60 Minutes, TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL and the Sunday Movie BELLA MAFIA, Pt. 1. All three programs pulled in over 20 million viewers. Also doing great for CBS is the Cosby lead KIDS SAY THE DARDNESS THINGS, which drew just under 20 million viewers, on a Friday, to place 13th for the week.
Despite a 2nd place finish, NBC still has the top 4 programs on TV. With exception of the freshman sitcom UNION SQUARE, the remaining Thursday line up make up the top 4. FRIENDS and VERONICA'S CLOSET pulled in over 36 million viewers, while SEINFELD and ER took in over 32 million viewers.
ABC was a distant 3rd for the week, averaging a full ratings point behind the other two networks. HOME IMPROVEMENT is still going strong as not only did an original episode place 5th, but a repeat episode took the #20 spot.
FOX was nipping at ABC's heals, being less than one ratings point behind ABC. THE X-FILES and KING OF THE HILL are the networks two entries in the top 20, but THE SIMPSONS came in 22nd and it does get some NFL overrun on Sunday.
The battle of the net-lets was a tie this week. The WB and UPN both scored a 3.3 rating.
