In the strength of AMERICAN IDOL and a much improved Monday night, FOX won the week in the A18-49 ratings with a 2.7 mark. AMERICAN IDOL was the #1 and #2 program in both viewers and demo ratings. It was the only program to attract an audience over 13 million viewers and/or post a demo rating over a 4.5.
ALSO looking good on FOX is Monday Nights. THE FOLLOWING posted one of the best series premieres this season, with 10.4 million viewers (#15) and a strong 3.2 demo rating (#9). The strong showing by the new series also helped out veteran series BONES, which posted one of its best ratings for the year, 8.5 million viewers and a 2.3 rating. If this one-two punch on Monday nights keep it up, we could have a four team battle on the night come March.
CBS only had thee nights of original programming, but that didn't stop it from taking the week in total viewers. NCIS was still the most watched scripted program, despite an encore airing on Tuesday. In total CBS placed 10 programs in the top 15 chart, and 19 in the top 30. CBS also placed 9 programs in the top 30 A18-49 chart.
NBC came back to life, thanks to the NFL. Sunday's coverage of the annual Pro Bowl. The game itself drew 12.2 million viewers and a 4.0 demo rating. The coverage of the game were the only entries by NBC in the top 30 viewer chart and was joined only by THE BIGGEST LOSER and THE OFFICE in the top 30 demo ratings chart.
ABC didn't have a whole lot to crow about this week. The usual programs did well, like MODERN FAMILY was the top rated scripted program in the A18-49 ratings at #3 overall. GREY'S ANATOMY is still a top 15 program in the A18-49 ratings.
As the networks head into the February sweeps, which start on Thursday, January 31, CBS and FOX have the momentum. There are no DWTS or THE VOICE to deal with and things are starting to click for their regular scheduled programming. This will be the first battle between the two for the season's A18-49 crown.
