Ratings: Broadcast Finals for October 2, 2012

The CW is Alive!! The "5th" network had its first fall season premiere on Tuesday with HART OF DIXIE. The sophomore series was down from last year's series premiere, but when the numbers are this low, the variation could be within the margin of error of Nielsen's reporting data. HART OF DIXIE drew 1.5 million viewers and a 0.7 rating in Adults 18-49.

The CW also aired an original episode of THE NEXT, which is in the semi-final round. it drew 630K in viewers and a 0.3 demo rating. That equates to a loss of a 59% loss from its lead in. Repeats of SUPERNATURAL could have drawn a bigger audience.

On the same day that GO ON and THE NEW NORMAL aired their 4th episodes in their regular time slots, both series posted their series low in the ratings. Of course, each week has been a "series low." NBC's vote of confidence in GO ON was rewarded by 16% drop in viewers and 22% in the demo. Since its premiere in the time slot, GO ON is down 40% in viewers and 38% in A18-49.

THE NEW NORMAL was equally rewarding towards NBC. Week-to-week, TNN is down 12% in viewers and 15% in the demo ratings. Since its time slot premiere, it is down 2.5 million viewers (35%) and 0.8 ratings point (32%). From the top four networks, only two new shows have generated a smaller demo rating than TNN. THE MOB DOCTOR and BEN & KATE, both on FOX. THE NEW NORMAL may have a full season order, but will America see all of them before June, if at all?

CBS was the strongest network on Tuesday night. All three series drew over 12 million viewers. However, VEGAS losing 30% in the demo ratings from its NCIS: LA lead in is not a good sign. This was my pick for sleeper hit of the season and that prediction is looking rather dim at the moment.

The FOX comedy night may not last long. all four series drew under 5 million viewers, three were under 4 million viewers. the demo ratings are not much better. Only NEW GIRL generated a rating over 2.0 in A18-49. RAISING HOPE's season premiere was bad with 3.9 million viewers and a 1.7 demo rating. BEN & KATE did somewhat maintain those numbers, but NEW GIRL is the only bright light of the night. It's 2.8 rating in Adults 18-49 was 4th best of the night. FOX needs to change the night in order to salvage NEW GIRL for the long term. Perhaps BONES as a lead in would be a nice fit for both series?? THE MINDY PROJECT may be salvageable, but it does have a stronger lead in than the 8pm comedies.

For ABC, as long as DANCING WITH THE STARS is going up against THE VOICE, it will continue to get all-time lows in the ratings and potentially kill the franchise. Could DWTS survive on another night without wrecking the whole schedule?
