Ratings: Broadcast Finals for September 25, 2012

NCISCBS wins the first Tuesday of the new season with the three most watched programs of the night and three of the top four in Adults 18-49. The night was led by NCIS which posted over 20 million viewers and a 4.1 demo rating. That is roughly even from last year's season premiere.

NCIS: LA posted almost identical ratings from one year ago. Only the demo rating of 3.4 is down by 0.2 ratings points. The veteran series dominated the hour in both measured categories.

VegasThe new drama VEGAS dominated the 10:00pm hour with nearly 15 million viewers, better than last year's series premiere of UNFORGETTABLE, but the demo rating was down by about 15% (2.5 vs 2.9). I expect VEGAS to have a slow build and by mid season, become the sleeper hit of the seaon, just like PERSON OF INTEREST last season.

We may be seeing the beginning of the end for DANCING WITH THE STARS. It lost 2.3 million viewers from the night before and is just above the Mendoza line of a 2.0 rating in the demo. Last seasons bad spring edition may be coming back to haunt the series despite having an All-Star edition this fall.

Private PracticePRIVATE PRACTICE was down considerably from last season BODY OF PROOF premiere. A loss of 3 million viewers and 10% in the demo rating. Getting a sub 2.0 for PP could mean an early exit from the season. After two days, ABC is not having a good 2012 fall season.

FOR NBC it was week three of its line up, but the first week with actual competition. THE VOICE was off by 2 million viewers and 0.5 ratings point in the demo. GO ON was down 2.4 million viewers and a larger 0.7 drop in the demo. THE NEW NORMAL lost nearly 20% in total viewers from last week, but just 0.2 ratings points in A18-49. All-in-all, not bad for NBC, but everything must stay at this level to have a chance to climb out of 4th place.

New GirlFOX had a disappointing night. THE NEW GIRL's ratings looked like last springs' ratings. Very mediocre. The network will have a tough time selling the comedy block to the viewers. 9:00pm looks better than 8:00pm, but neither are ready to challenge for the top spot, even in the demo ratings.
