Ratings: Broadcast Finals for September 26, 2012

Modern FamilyABC claimed the top program of the night with the season premiere of MODERN FAMILY. It easly dominated the night with the most viewers (14.4 million) and best demo rating (5.5). Year-to-year, MODERN FAMILY was even in total viewers, but was down 10% in Adults 18-49.

THE NEIGHBORS had a prime slot for its series premiere. The raw numbers are decent. 9.2 million viewers and a 3.2 demo rating. But when you look at the retention from its MODERN FAMILY lead in, things are not so rosy. 37% loss in total viewers, 62% loss in Adults 18-49. It will be very interesting to see how THE NEIGHBORS does once its in the 8:30 time slot and how it affects the shows around it.

Animal PracticeNBC's recent run of good ratings came to an end Wednesday as the entire night under performed. Both comedies look to be as effective as last year's UP ALL NIGHT and FREE AGENTS, in the same time period. It may take a couple weeks to see how good or bad the sitcoms do when THE NEIGHBORS enters the hour and premiere week excitement ends.

LAW & ORDER: SVU is really showing its age. The two hour premiere was down, slightly, to last year's one hour premiere. NBC either needs to announce this as the last season, or move the veteran crime drama to a time slot with less competition.

Criminal MindsCBS was down dramatically to last year's numbers. CRIMINAL MINDS is down 24% in the demo ratings, year-to-year. Total viewership was off by 2.4 million viewers. Is the loss of a regular cast member too much for viewers to care about the series any longer?

CSI, now in its 13th season, was also down from last year, 2 million viewers and 22% in the demo. But the numbers are close to the season average from last season.

SURVIVOR: PHILIPPINE did hold most of last week's audience. It only loss 9% in total viewers and just 3% in the A18-49 ratings. That is good news for the series as it should have a strong season with little, if any, erosion.

THE X-FACTOR was not the dominate program from Wednesday night, but it did power FOX to a nightly win in the Adult 18-49, with a 3.4 rating.
