Previewing Fall 2012 Tuesday Nights.
Tuesday nights may feature the most changes for one night. There are six freshmen series set to debut this fall, three other series that are relocated to Tuesdays and time slot changes for two more. The night is gearing up to be the most competitive, behind Thursdays.
CBS should win the night in both viewers and demo ratings. It has a very tight and balanced three hours, unlike ABC and NBC.
Tuesdays at 8:00pm:
This will be the most competitive hour of the night. Bother DANCING WITH THE STARS and THE VOICE have moved their results show back an hour to help kick of the night for their respective networks. They will have to battle the #1 drama on TV, NCIS. Between the three programs they will attract between 40-45 million viewers and a combined demo ratings of about 9-10 points. NCIS should continue to be the moist watched and will battle THE VOICE for the tops in the 18-49 demographic ratings. DWTS will have good numbers, second in viewers, their, or even fourth, in the demo ratings. the new FOX comedies will have low viewership, but could top DWTS in the demo race. Newly located HART OF DIXIE, from the CW, will obviously be in last place.
Tuesdays at 9:00pm:
This hour will feature six comedies between ABC, NBC and FOX. I expect FOX, lead by NEW GIRL, to be the top rated comedy of the night. THE MINDY PROJECT, which follows NEW GIRL should have a decent amount retention, from the lead in, at 9:30. NBC and ABC will battle it out for the scraps. ABC has veteran comedies HAPPY ENDINGS and DON'T TRUST THE B--- moving over from Wednesdays. Both will have to prove that they were not just renewed because they followed MODERN FAMILY in 2011-12. I am not sure if ABC's sitcoms can top NBC's GO and THE NEW NORMAL, but it should be a battle for 3rd place in the hour. CBS should easily win the hour with NCIS: LA. Now that both DWTS and THE VOICE are out of the time slot, expect a ratings surge from the third year drama. The CW has a new drama, EMILY OWENS, M.D. that should fail misserablly. Just the concept of the show (Medical drama that is just like high school drama) sounds awful. EMILY could be one of the first shows of the season to be axed.
Tuesdays at 10:00pm:
This could be the season that CBS schedules a hit at 10:00pm on Tuesday nights. VEGAS looks slick and has two well know stars (Dennis Quaid and Michael Chiklis) as it leading men. It comes from the producers of THE SHIELD and may be the retro-series that hits with audiences. VEGAS should win in total viewers and demo ratings. PRIVATE PRACTICE will be a close in the demo, but will fall into second place. PARENTHOOD will drop even further in the ratings. If it was not airing on NBC, it would have never seen a second season, let alone a third.CBS should win the night in both viewers and demo ratings. It has a very tight and balanced three hours, unlike ABC and NBC.
