Ratings Review: RAKE (Season One)

RAKE was looking to be the next bid series for FOX. The network had originally scheduled it for the prime post-NFL Championship game, on January 19th. A few weeks before the big premiere, it was pulled for the season premiere of THE FOLLOWING and given just a regular series premiere, in it's regular time slot. This was, in hindsight, the first sign of trouble with the series and the network not having any confidence in it.

Despite critical praise for the series, the series premiere was very soft, especially after an AMERICAN IDOL episode. The numbers only got worse, and worse and worse. Eventually, RAKE was moved to the death night of Fridays, after just 7 episodes.

The ratings struggle continued on Friday nights, unable to pull in even 2 million viewers. So, after three more episodes, FOX moved the series to the burn-off night of Saturday evenings. And if Saturday nights were not bad enough, it was Double episodes to burn the stench off quicker.

After one of the worst rated Saturday nights ever for FOX, the last and final episode never aired. Not deemed good enough for even Saturday nights.

For the season RAKE averaged 3.92 million viewers and an A18-49 rating of 1.1, on Thursday nights. Just 1.87 million viewers and a 0.5 demo rating on Fridays. And, a horrid 1.03 million viewers and a 0.2 demo rating on the lone, double episode Saturday night. RAKE made our TOP 10 TV BUSTS THIS SEASON list, and it was well earned and deserved.
