TOP 10: Broadcast Busts This Season

The 2013-14 season is winding down and we are just a few weeks from the networks announcing their plans for the 2014-15 season. But, what has been the worse of the season? What has been the biggest busts the broadcast networks have aired? Lets take a look at what I believe are the 10 biggest busts this season.

10) HOSTAGES:
CBS moved HAWAII FIVE-O from the Monday, 10 p.m. time slot so that a new drama, HOSTAGES, could attract new, younger viewers. What CBS got was it's worst performing drama in years. Of an initial, luke warm sampling, the ratings quickly sunk to five million viewers and a low one in the A18-49 ratings. Well below what H5O was pulling the season before. The only saving grace for CBS was that it was scheduled as a limited runs series.

9) SEAN SAVES THE WORLD:
I didn't expect this traditional sitcom to be a big hit, but I did think it would help NBC move in the right direction for it's comedy line up. From the beginning, ratings were low,and only got worse. It did not help that it's lead in was equally bad in the ratings. Had it been on another network, it would have been axed months earlier, than it's January 2014 demise.

8) DRACULA:
NBC was looking for a companion series for GRIMM, on Friday nights. Viewers want a two hour block of "fantasy" programming from NBC on Friday nights. After the premiere, which did well, viewers almost unanimously rejected DRACULA within weeks after the first episode. I, like most of NBC's new series, performed horribly in the ratings for most of the season, which was just 10 episodes.

7) THE ASSETS:
This limited runs series was on and off the ABC schedule so fast that most viewers didn't even know it was on the air. I for one didn't even know what the series was about until after it was cancelled. It was nothing more than filler programming between the hiatus of SCANDAL, but it completely failed at accomplishing that on task.

6) WELCOME TO THE FAMILY:
Airing just three episodes, airing on NBC and on Thursday nights,, this comedy can't help but make this list. NBC was trying it's hardest to correct the course with it's comedies but it continues to give us single camera turkeys. Unfortunately, I do not think it will be the last from NBC.

5) BETRAYAL:
BETRAYAL completely dropped the ball for ABC Sunday nights. The lead in numbers were there, but this bland, shadow of a soapy drama delivered absolutely nothing. it was an instant flop. Personally, this should have been one of the first series cancelled by any network, but ABC had so many issues in the fall, it got a pass and was able to run it's 13 episode commitment.

4) MICHAEL J FOX SHOW:
Fans wanted this show to be good. It was one of the more anticipated new shows of the 2013-14 season. They gave the series premiere promising ratings, but ultimately, it was a major flop. It's ratings were not only as bad as the other NBC comedies, but, near the end, they were worse. The one sad thing about this show is that NBC still must, by contract, air the remaining episodes. Summer Saturday nights, will produce ultra-low numbers for this much anticipated sitcom.

3) WE ARE MEN:
This was given the distinction of being the second show cancelled of the 2013-14 TV season. It's ratings were not horrible, but when you are on CBS, expectations are higher. CBS only gives a few slots to new shows and every series is expected to deliver. Perhaps had they not cast Jerry O'Connell, the series may have lasted beyond two episodes. It is easily CBS' biggest flop of the season.

2) RAKE:
The first sign this series was going to be a flop, in hindsight, was it being pulled from the prime post NFC Championship game slot and given just a regular series premiere, after AMERICAN IDOL. The premiere produced soft ratings and the numbers quickly dropped to terrible. It was moved from the prime real estate of Thursdays and moved to the less valued Friday night slot, where expectations are almost nonexistent. This is where RAKE earns it's #2 ranking. The numbers became so bad that FOX had to kick it of Friday nights and give it the death slot of Saturday nights, to burn off the remaining episodes. This series went from being one of the most promising mid-season series to one of the biggest flops of the season.

1) LUCKY 7:
When ABC presented this series in it's 2013 upfronts, in May of last year, I knew this would be the very first series cancelled of the 2013-14 season. It is one of those few TV series that was a bad idea from the start. And I am of the belief that there are few bad ideas in Hollywood, just plenty of poor executions of ideas. LUCKY 7 is the epitome of how ABC's season has been from the start. Horrible decisions and selections. Anytime you are the first series cancelled of a TV season, you have to be the biggest bust of the season.

There are so many other busts from this season, to choose from. But, who would you have selected for your top 10? WHat did I miss or get wrong? Post your thoughts in the comments below.
