US Box Office Results: September 7 - 9, 2018
September releases are supposed to be the left over movies, not worthy of either a summer or holiday release. THE NUN opened with $53.5 million, the second largest opening ever, behind HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 2. THE NUN is also the best opening in the CONJURING franchise, topping 2013's first movie by $12 million. The film also brought in $77 in the international box office, bringing the first weened total to $131 million. Not bad for a film that cost just $22 million to produce.
CRAZY RICH ASIANS dropped to the #2 spot, after a three week run in the top position. The $13.6 million take is the first under $20 for the film.
New release, PEPPERMINT, was a close third on the weekend, grabbing $13.3 million. Its per screen take was greater than CRA, as it was in 900 fewer theaters.
