Preliminary Ratings: Thursday 09/28/2017
CBS kicked of THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL to less than stellar numbers, grabbing 10.7 million viewers and a 3.2 rating in Adults 18-49. Compared to last year's first CBS game, the numbers are down by 4.7 million viewers and 40% in the A18-49 demographic. But, the numbers will grow once finals are released tonight.
ABC took second, on the strength of a two-hour season premiere of GREY'S ANATOMY. From 8 to 10 PM, the drama averaged 7.9 million viewers and a 2.3 rating in Adults 18-49. Last fall, GREY'S drew 8.8 million viewers and a 2.9 demo rating. HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER is a dying series, as it dropped 50% of its GREY'S lead in. One year ago, the crime drama held onto 5.1 million viewers and a 1.4 rating in Adults 18-49.
CBS was third on the night, with a near full night of premieres. The highlight is the return of WILL & GRACE to the airwaves. The sitcom was the #1 non-NFL program, drawing 10.0 million viewers and a 2.9 rating in Adults 18-49. Time will tell if this is a one-time ratings boost, or if viewers are wanting more W&G. The rest of the night for NBC was decent, ranking third for most of the night. CHICAGO FIRE grew from its GOOD NEWS lead in and was the #3 entertainment program of the night.
FOX is pretty much dead on night, in a distant 4th place finish. Neither GOTHAM or THE ORVILLE finished above fourth place. GOTHAM was the lowest rated program of the night, excluding The CW.
