Preliminary Ratings: Sunday 01/22/2017

With a primetime airing of the AFC Championship game, CBS dominated the Sunday night ratings. It was the only network with original programming on the night, except FOX airing a new episode of SON OF ZORN in the middle of encores.

The AFC Championship game was a blow out, as the Patriots beat the Steelers, 36-17, as 41.3 million viewers watched from 6:30 to 10 PM. Compared to last year's NFC game prelims, on FOX, viewership is slightly up, but the demos are down between a half a a full point in the ratings.

CBS used the hot post-game slot for the new series, HUNTED. The premiere held onto about 25% of its lead in audience, for 10.8 million viewers and a 3.6 rating in Adults 18-49. Last year, THE X-FILES revival premiere drew 13.5 million viewers and a 5.1 demo rating in the early ratings. HUNTED settles into its Wednesday, 8 PM time slot this week.

SON OF ZORN, on FOX did little more than look to be burn-off programming for FOX. Why else air a new episode, against a huge NFL game, surrounded by encores?
