Final Broadcast Ratings: September 20, 2016
Night two of the new season has CBS as the most watched network, averaging over 14 million viewers, but NBC dominates in the younger demographic, by more than a full point in each category. New series BULL and THIS IS US get off to strong starts, grabbing 15.6 million and 10.1 million viewers each, respectively.
NBC's THE VOICE was #1 in the young demographics, including a 4.3 rating in Adults 25-54. That is on par from one year ago. THIS IS US had a strong premiere, but when comparing the series launch of it and BLINDSPOT, one year ago, THIS IS US is down about 10%.
NCIS was the most watched show of the evening, but is down 2.2 million viewers and 12% in the A18-49 demographic, from last year's premiere. The new series, BULL, got off to a very strong start, holding 97% of the NCIS audience and all of the A18-49 and A25-54 demographics. NCIS: NEW ORLEANS, now at 10 PM, dropped 1.4 million viewers and 20% in the A18-49 demo, from the 2015 premiere.
ABC topped FOX, thanks to a decent performance from DANCING WITH THE STARS, despite a third place showing in the time slot. However, AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D is a dead series. It was last in the 10 PM time slot and lost 1.4 million viewers and 35% in the demo, from last year's season premiere.
FOX still has a long way to go if it wants to compete with the Big 3. It has just one-third the audience as #3 ABC and is last in two of the three demographic categories, excluding The CW. Come the first week in October, FOX could see a 5th place finish, behind The CW.
