Final Broadcast Ratings: September 19, 2016
NBC wins night one of the 2016-17 season, with a strong showing from THE VOICE. The veteran competition series collected 12.1 million viewers and a 3.3 rating in Adults 18-49, to win its two hour time slot. Year-to-year, THE VOICE is down around 7 percent. THE GOOD PLACE followed THE VOICE, losing a third of its lead in audience. The time slot lost 2.6 million viewers 25% in the A18-49 demo, from what BLINDSPOT drew for its series premiere, in 2015.
As expected, THE BIG BANG THEORY was the night's #1 show, collecting 15.4 million viewers and a 3.6 rating in Adults 18-49. Last year, the premiere drew 18.2 million viewers and a 4.7 demo rating, creating a loss of 2.8 million viewers and 23% in the demographic. The series premiere of KEVIN CAN WAIT did relatively well, keeping 11.2 million viewers and a 2.6 demo rating. that is exactly on par with LIFE IN PIECES, in 2015, but having better retention out of BIG BANG.
FOX premiered its two Monday dramas, to less than stellar numbers. GOTHAM failed to draw four million viewers and neither it or LUCIFER were able to reach the 1.5 mark of the A18-49 ratings. LUCIFER is a major improvement over last year's MINORITY REPORT, but GOTHAM saw losses of around 20%, year-to-year.
ABC did edge out FOX for third place, with week two of DANCING WITH THE STARS, which loss 1.5 million viewers and 20% in the demo, from last week's premiere. The finale of MATCH GAME lost near 60% of its lead in audience.
