TOP 10 US Box Office Movies of 2015
It was a record setting year for the US box office, grabbing over $11 billion in grosses, for the first time ever. There were 27 movies that grossed over $100 million, ten getting over $200 million, seven over $300 million, three over $400 million and two over $650 million.
The top two films of the year were separated by just $300,000, with JURASSIC WORLD taking the top spot over STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS. But, the 7th movie of the STAR WARS franchise will be the top 2015 release, grabbing a few hundred million dollars more, in 2016. There is a good chance that THE FORCE AWAKENS can be a top ten movie in 2016, also.
2014's AMERICAN SNIPER took the #6 spot, bringing in $349 million of its $350 total take, in 2015, and is one of the very rare January wide release films to do this well.
DISNEY is the big winner of 2015, as the studio places four films in the top 10, including three of the top four. Universal took the #1 spot, with JURASSIC WORLD, plus two more spots with FURIOUS 7 (#5) and MINIONS (#7).
What was the worst movie of 2015, in wide release?
JEM & THE HOLOGRAMS, in over 2,400 theaters, grossed just $2.2 million viewers in its theatrical run.
