THE HEART OF THE SEA did not have enough in its first weekend out to dethrone THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY PT. 2 from the top spot. Both movies hauled in 0ver $11 million, but the HUNGER GAMES hit took in about $300k more. It is the fourth consecutive week for MOCKINGJAY in the top spot, and will be the last week in that position.
Last weekend's #2 movie, KRAMPUS, falls to the #5 spot, bringing in $8 million, about half of last weekend's take. The low budget horror film has already nearly doubled its production buget, so anything else is almost pure profit.
Next weekend will be THE weekend of the year as the long awaited 7th STAR WARS movie hit theaters. Expect a theater count of over 4000 theaters and a record breaking opening weekend, which is currently $209 million by JURASSIC WORLD.
