TV News Roundup: December 17, 2015


  • TNT renews three axes three series
  • More FARGO, but not anytime soon
  • 2015 see over 400 scripted TV series
  • Super-sized VIKINGS season four

TNT moves for 2016:
Some TNT series got the present of another season renewal, other got coal. Those returning for another season will be THE LIBRARIANS, MURDER IN THE FIRST and MAJOR CRIMES received their respective season renewals. But, MAJOR CRIMES will only have a 10 episode order. Series getting the axe on Christmas are AGENT X, LEGENDS, and PUBLIC MORALS.



The Christmas axe Hits NBC:
Despite decent ratings, NBC has cancelled BEST TIME EVER WITH NEIL PATRICK HARRIS, after one season.



FARGO 2017:
Fargo was renewed for a third season, but it will not premiere until the spring of 2017, at the earliest. Weather is the issue, with the series always set in a winter setting.



DESIGNATED SURVIVOR has its President:
The ABC series DESIGNATED SURVIVOR, about a low level cabinet member becoming President after a terrorist attack, has cast Kiefer Sutherland as the lead character as the new President of the United States.



MIKE & MOLLY to end in  2016:
After cutting its episode order to 13 episodes this season, CBS has announced that this season will be the last of the comedy, MIKE & MOLLY.



Supersized VIKINGS:
History has upped the episode order of the fourth season of VIKINGS to a total of 20, for 2016. But, they will be split into two, two episode runs. The first will be early 2016, premiering Feb. 18, 2016, and the last ten, sometime in the second half of 2016.



Netflix sets FULLER HOUSE premiere:
The complete first season of the rebooted FULLER HOUSE will be released on February 26, 2016.



409 Scripted TV series in 2015:
Between Cable, Broadcast, Premioum cable and streaming services, 2015 saw 409 scripted TV series. That is not including the flood of original "reality" programs we get on the platforms. Below is a chart that FX Networks released this week.
