US Box Office Results: September 4 - 7, 2015
The Christian movie WAR ROOM added about 400 screens, up to just over 1,500, and took the weekend box office top spot. The movie brought in $12.6 million, up $1.2 million from last week, and averaged $8,200 per screen. Over its 11 days of release, WAR ROOM have brought in $27.2 million, nine times its $3 million production budget.
One movie had a higher per screen average than WAR ROOM and that is the Spanish language animated movie "Un Gallo con Muchos Huevos", with $11,200 per screen average. The movie played on just under 400 screens, yet took in over $4.4 million over the holiday weekend.
The two wide release new movies, A WALK IN THE WOODS (#3) and THE TRANSPORTER REFUELED (#5), did not have great weekends. The Robert Redford/Nick Nolte buddy movie only took in $10.6 million, while the reboot to the TRANSPORTER franchise only managed $9 million. REFUELED had the worst opening of the four film franchise, which had 7 years between this film and the last.
