US Box Office Results: April 17 - 19, 2015
PAUL BLART and a Facebook horror movie were not enough to dethrone FURIOUS 7 from the top of the Box office chart. The action thriller collected another $29 million dollars, five more than PAUL BLART 2, to bring its domestic total to $294 million. FURIOUS 7 is the third movie this year to stay on top the chart, for three, or more, straight weeks. I like its odds to make it four strait weeks, and tie AMERICAN SNIPER, with a light competition in the new releases, next weekend.
The follow up to PAUL BLART, MALL COP did decent numbers, but was $7 million behind the first movie, when comparing the two movie's opening weekends. The 2009 movie ended up with a total domestic take of $146 million. PAUL BLART 2 will be lucky to make it to $80 million.
The last major release of the weekend, UNFRIENDED, had a relative good weekend. it had the 39th best opening weekend, for a horror film, ranking just behind THE OMEN (2006) and CARRIE (2013). To put it in perspective, it only takes $30+ million opening to make the top 10, for the genre.
