Preliminary Ratings: Sunday 03/22/15
CBS edged out FOX and ABC to get the sweep in the Sunday night ratings, with a strong showing from the NCAA Tournament overrun game. The game brought in 13.3 million viewers and a 3.3 rating to the primetime schedule, helping boost the numbers for 60 MINUTES. Both the Tournament game and 60 Minutes were the top rated shows in the demo, and the two most watched programs of the evening. But, is it is with football overruns, the late programs are not getting any halo effect from the boost, their numbers are actually hurt by the delayed start of their respective series.
You know things are tough when AFV is your most watched program of the night. The video clips show was the only ABC program with over six million viewers. It was also the only non-CBS program to accomplish the feat. ABC was up a tad, compared to last week's numbers, with AFV and SECRETS & LIES going up in the demo ratings.
Despite half the lineup being encore episodes, FOX was a competitive third place, in the demo ratings, just two tenths of a point from #1 CBS. A very encouraging sign for THE LAST MAN ON EARTH as it drew from its encore lead in by more than 30% in each category. The comedy should score a renewal come up fronts, this May.
Nothing of interest from NBC, which is killing time until their new dramas premiere, next month. Of course, they could be DOA, like the last couple of seasons, with NBC scrambling to fill even more time with more DATELINE.
