Final Broadcast Ratings: March 12, 2015

If you were not sure that spring has arrived, the Thursday night ratings should convince you. Just about every regular series is down 10%, or more, from last week's ratings. SCANDAL dropped below a three demo ratings for the first time in 2015. New episodes of THE BIG BANG THEORY and THE ODD COUPLE were both down four & five tenths of a point, in the demo, respectively. IDOL took a big drop, falling close to a half a point in the ratings. The only show to rise, in the demo, from last week's numbers, airing original episodes, was ELEMENTARY (+0.1).

CBS swept the night, taking both the demo and viewership crowns. The night's average was down only one tenth of a ratings point and off by 700k in viewership, from last week's average. With new competition at 10 p.m., ELEMENTARY was the king of the time slot, winning in viewers and tying in the demo. It may be the first time this season ELEMENTARY was tops the time slot, when the other two networks aired new episodes of regular series.

ABC was a strong second place, but fell 20% in the demo and 1.5 million viewers, from last week's average. The biggest lost on the night was week two of AMERICAN CRIME. Week-to-week, the series lost 2.6 million viewers and 30% in the A18-49 ratings, pushing ABC second in the time slot and for the night.

FOX aired two hours of AMERICAN IDOL and brought up the nightly average by 1.7 million viewers, but just two tenths of a ratings point, in the demo. AI fell 1.1 million viewers and four tenths a point in the demo, over last week.

NBC's shuffle of Thursday nights didn't produce any gains. In fact, the network is down 200k, in total viewers, and flat in the demo, from last week. THE SLAP produced a worse A18-49 rating, at 10 p.m., than ALLEGIANCE did last week. DATELINE did at least hold the 8 p.m. hour at a sub one rating. FYI, NBC now has four straight nights of scheduling DATELINE, on a regular basis. It now represents one third of the NBC weekly schedule.
