TV Academy announces Emmy changes:
To wrangle in and curtail the randomness of categories a particular work can submit in, the TV Academy has made changes/definitions as to what a comedy, drama, and mini-series are. Last season, FARGO was a mini-series, while AMERICAN HORROR STORY was a drama, and the hour long Netflix series, ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK, was a comedy. Nominations will also expand beyond the traditional five in each category.
- Comedy Series: A series of episodes, with the length in time at 30 minutes or less.
- Drama Series: A series of episodes that are more than 30 minutes in length.
- A Mini-series: Retermed to "Limited Series," has two or more episodes and a program run time of less than 150 minutes, and must be a non-reacquiring story.
- A Series: A drama or comedy with at least six episodes, or more. with recurring characters and story lines.
- A Guest Actor: An actor appearing in less than 50% of the episodes of a series
- Variety Talk Series: One part of the split of the Variety or Musical series category, now awarded to best Talk Show (host) and presented during Primetime Awards broadcast.
- Variety Sketch Series: Second part of the Variety or Musical series category, now awarded to the sketch based programs and presented during the Creative Arts program.
CSI coming to Hulu:
Although CBS is not part of the Hulu collective, the streaming service has acquired the exclusive streaming rights to the long running hit crime series, CSI. This is the first time the series 300+ episodes have been made available for streaming audiences.
James Corden's first guest set:
The first guest of Jame Corden's reign on THE LATE LATE SHOW will be the great, Tom Hanks. A great grab for the 1:30 a.m. talk show.
