The week of July 20, 1998 looked very much like the week of July 13, 1998. CBS and NBC in the weekly averages, with ABC a close third and FOX a distant fourth. The WB tops UPN in the battle of the netlets, by more than a 35% advantage.
CBS and NBC make up 16 of the top 20 programs of the week, with CBS taking seven and NBC grabbing nine. Outside of NBC's hot Thursday night shows, DATELINE is what leads the network. The newsmagazine aires three times in the week, with all three shows making the top 20, including the top two spots.
Two theatrical movie made the top 20. Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves in SPEED take the #18 spot for OFX, while ABC's presentation of the Michael Douglas movie FALLING DOWN secures #17 on the chart. Other Theatrical movies doing decent numbers were THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES (FOX), with 7.5 million viewers. ACE VENTURA: PET DETECTIVE drew 6.6 million viewers, on a Saturday night. However, THE LAST ACTION HERO could only generate 5.1 million, on Saturday.
