The full Nielsen rankings and ratings from #1 to #97:
The week of Christmas sees split leadership, with NBC taking the major young demographic ratings, while CBS is the most watched network of the week.
FOOTBALL powers NBC to the top, with a strong finish to the SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL SEASON, grabbing over 20.7 million viewers for the Pittsburgh vs Cincinnati game.. The 8 p.m half hour of FOOTBALL NIGHT IN AMERICA pushes to the #3 spot, with near 11.2 million. After that, NBC does not have another top entry until DATELINE appears at #20. The network's 4th and lst top 30 program was the Christmas Eve presentation of IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE, at #28.
CBS' success for the week was a mixture of repeats and original episodes of its regular series. The network takes all the spots from #4 to #15, plus three more, in the mid 20s, for a total of 15 shows in the top 30. The four Sunday shows, all original episodes, each made the weekly top 11, with 60 MINUTES posting as the #4 show of the week.
ABC's nine top 30 programs all rank below the 15th spot. Most of the shows are holiday specials and movies, with the classic animated special HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS as the network's top program, at #16.
FOX pushed just THE OT and an encore of THE SIMPSONS into the top 30, with every other program ranking 50th, or worse.
The CW was a distant 5th place, but did manage to average above one million viewers, on mostly holiday programs.
