US Box Office Results: December 5 - 7, 2014
With no new wide release films this weekend, THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY Pt. 1 was the top movie, for the third weekend in a row. This weekend's take was $21.6 million, nearly doubling the kids movie, THE PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR ($11.1). After 17 day, MOCKINGJAY has grossed over $257.7 million, domestically. Add in the international receipts and MOCKINGJAY has totaled $560 million.
In their fifth week of release, BIG HERO 6 and INTERSTELLAR, continue to bring audiences into the movie theater, as each movie brought in eight million dollars. BIG HERO SIX has a total domestic gross of $175.4 million, while INTERSTELLAR $158.7, domestically. The story is different, for the two movies, when you add in the international takes. BIG HERO 6 is just at $240.3 million, while INTERSTELLAR has commanded $593 million.
