HBO Is Cutting The Cord
In a speech given to TimeWarner investers, HBO chairman and CEO Richard Plepler stated that HBO will begin offering a streaming service to non-subscribers in 2015.
Plepler was quoted, “So in 2015, we will launch a stand-alone, over-the-top, HBO service in the United States. We will work with our current partners. And we will explore models with new partners.”
HBO must be feeling the effect of the success from Netflix, Hulu and Amazon have had offering premium content, at a low, stand alone price structure.
Over the past year, Comcast and AT&T have both offered packages that bundle HBO only with broadband internet and local TV channels.
If you subscribe to Netflix now, would you drop it for a standalone HBO streaming service?
