Final Broadcast Ratings: September 21, 2014
The last day before the fall TV season officially kicks-off, saw CBS jump in with its three-fourths of it's Sunday line up premiering their seasons, to strong, but mixed numbers. However, SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL still rules the night, pushing NBC to the top spot.
The series premiere of MADAM SECRETARY was well sampled with 14.8 million viewers and a 2.0 rating in Adults 18-49. The viewership is a strong number, but the A18-49 rating is a bit underwhelming, given the size of the total audience. However, I would suspect CBS has a very strong female demographic rating in the key age groups.
Following at 10 p.m., was the season premiere of THE GOOD WIFE. Airing an an hour later than normal, THE GOOD WIFE felt the effect of being on the back end of a football overrun delay. Viewership is up close to one million viewers, from last season's premiere, but the A18-49 ratings are off by less than 10%. I would suspect the ratings for TGW will balance out for those Sundays it airs in the 9 p.m. hour.
CBS did have the most watched primetime program, with an hour of NFL football hitting the 7 p.m. hour. 27.3 million viewers bled into primetime, helping boost the numbers of of 60 MINUTES. Both programs may see a significant change. when finals are reported on Tuesday.
NBC's SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL powered to 18 million viewers for the Steelers vs Panthers game, the lowest rated game of the four games so far. It was not the best of match-ups and the game was a bit dull for the first half.
