US Box Office Results: June 6 - 8, 2014
The movie adaptation of the 2012 book THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, written by John Green, was the top movie of the weekend, collecting an strong $48.2 million dollars in it's first weekend. That is four times the production budget of the film, making the movie and instant hit. Of the top five films, three other movie were on more screens than THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, having just a few more than A MILLION WAYS TO DIE IN THE WEST.
The other new release of the weekend, was the Tom Cruise sci-fi action movie EDGE OF TOMORROW, placing in the third spot. The $180 million movie grossed just $29 million in it's first weekend, putting it on track to draw less than $100 million domestically. As far as Tom Cruise openers, EDGE OF TOMORROW's take was $8 million leas than last year's OBLIVION, but was almost double what 2012's JACK REACHER drew in it's first weekend.
The X-MEN movie continues to do well, now in it's third week.The superhero movie brought in another $14.7 million, bringing it's domestic total to over $189 million. It is now the #4 highest grossing movie of the year, with THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN in close range to be pasts, next weekend.
