Ratings Review: REIGN (Season One)
The period drama REIGN is one of the better performing freshman CW series of the season, helped by having THE VAMPIRE DIARIES as a lead in. It was also voted as the favorite new TV drama at this year's PEOPLE CHOICE AWARDS. It looks like the CW may have a relatively moderate success on it's hands.
The season started well, drawing between 1.5 to 1.9 million viewers for most episodes, in the first half of the season. The demo rating remained consistent during this time, staying in the upper half of a sub-one rating. But, once the spring came, the ratings dropped. Viewership dropped by about 25-30%, while the young demographic ratings fell near 50%.
The few data points we have for the DVR ratings show that about one third to one half of the total audience wait until after the initial airing to watch the series. But with the numbers starting under a one demo, a small number that is doubles, is still a small number.
For the season, REIGN averaged 1.43 million viewers and a 0.5 rating in Adults 18-49, for the 29 airings, including six encore episodes.
