Final Broadcast Ratings: June 22, 2014
It is no coincidence that NBC and ABC battled for the Sunday night crown, as their programming were nearly identical to each other. But, NBC's established shows out drew ABC's new series.
ABC kicked off it's night with the season premiere of WIPEOUT. The comedy game show drew 3.6 million viewers and a 1.1 rating in Adults 18-49. The long running series won both the 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. hours, in the demographic ratings. Although it did beat NBC's repeat of AMERICAN NINJA WARRIOR, it did not dominate it like a new episode should over an encore episode.
Following WIPEOUT was the series premiere of RISING STAR, ABC's new talent competition series. The first episode collected 5.2 viewers and a 1.5 rating in Adults 18-49, not a bad showing, but it could not top a special Sunday episode of AMERICA'S GOT TALENT. TALENT drew three million more viewers and 40% more in the demo ratings. However, TALENT was below it's season average. NBC may have successfully muted the impact of RISING STAR, but in doing so, it weakened the power of AMERICA'S GOT TALENT.
The only new program between FOX and CBS was the series finale of the underrated comedy ENLISTED. It's finale airing drew pretty horrible numbers, bringing in the worst numbers of the night. The series could have been a great companion show to BROOKLYN NINE-NINE, but DADS got that call, and blew it.
