TV News Roundup: May 9, 2014

It was a very busy Friday in TV News, as the networks shore up their series commitments, in preparation of their upfront presentation, next week.  ABC had an active day, with most series and pilots knowing their fate. NBC is getting rid of most, but not all, low rated shows. This and more in today's TV News Roundup!

CBS Picks Up 4 Dramas and 2 Comedies:
CBS finally got into the news with 7 serues pick ups. The two comedies are a new version of THE ODD COUPLE, starring Mattthew Perry, and THE MCCARTHY'S, about a loud Biston family that loves sports. It features Laurie Metcalf.

In the drama department,  the 3rd NCIS series, set in New Orleans, is on the schedule. A political drama MADAM SECRETARY, staring Tea Leoni, Tim Daly & Babe Neuwirth, is a go. A pare of crime dramas. STALKER, staring Dylan McDermott,  about LAPD's Threat Management Unit. And, SCORPION, a bunch of international geniuses as the lasnline of defense. Robert Patrick heads the cast.

ABC Discloses What Was Kept, Axed and Renewed:
ABC is picking up nine new series, for 2014-15. Four sitcoms and five dramas. The network also renewed 10 series and cancelled three. [LINK]

NBC Picks Up Two Series, Renews Two, Cancels Five Others:
NBC has pucked the Kate walsh crime drama BAD JUDGE and comedy ONE BIG HAPPY.

The network has renewed the first year comedy ABOUT A BOY and the very low rated second year drama, HANNIBAL. The renewal of HANNIBAL may be tough for star Lawrence Fishburn, who also has been cast in the new ABC comedy BLACK-ISH.

The Five series cancelled are sitcoms COMMUNITY and GROWING UP FISHER, plus dramas, BELIEVE, CRISIS and REVOLUTION. Somewhat surprised by the COMMUNITY cancellation, as the ratings were as bad in 2012-13 as they were this season. Sad to see GROWING UP FISHER not to continue.

TLC Renewes Sophomore Series:
The cable network has given a third season pick up to the reality series GYPSY SISTERS.

Bravo Adds Three Scripted Series:
Bravo has added three more scripted series to it's line up. RULES OF ATTRACTION, based on a book of the same name. SHANGHAI, a drama about Americans living in China. And, the African-American family drama SWEET LIFE, set in Martha's Vineyard.

Yet Another Tattoo Series:
Spike TV has ordered 10 episodes of the reality series TATTOO NIGHTMARES MIAMI. Do we really need another series on this topic?
