Final Broadcast Ratings: May 21, 2014
The final night of the 2013-14 season saw a deflated AMERICAN IDOL win the night, in both total viewers (10.5 million) and in the A18-49 ratings (2.6). The singing competition series gave it's best rated night in nearly two and a half months. The winner of the season was rocker Caleb Johnson, who sounded great with KISS as his backing band.
CBS ended SURVIVOR on a Wednesday this season and the three hour block did very well, with CBS finishing second on the night. The Reunion show did win the 10 p.m. hour, beating CHICAGO PD and summer series MOTIVE.
ABC gave us one hour season finales of their two top sitcoms. THE MIDDLE and MODERN FAMILY recorded above spring average ratings for the enders. MODERN FAMILY was the top rated program of the night, in the A18-49 demographic ratings, with a 3.7.
Despite three season finales on the night, NBC was the low man, of the Big 4 networks. REVOLUTION displayed why it is cancelled, beating only MOTIVE, a summer series, from the entire night's offerings from the Big 4 networks. LAW & ORDER: SVU and CHICAGO PD just don't have the drawing power to draw an audience away from IDOL and SURVIVOR, plus MODERN FAMILY.
A positive sign that the CW did make a good decision on THE 100. Standing all by it's self on the night, it drew a respectable 1.5 million viewers. Not that far off from what it has been getting, in recent weeks, with ARROW as a lead in.
