TV News Roundup: Week of January 27, 2014

BONES is on the move again, Two stations, one channel, Game show renewed and NBC can't save SEAN.

MONDAY:
  • NBC has inside track for more NFL:
    Insiders are speculating that NBC has the best chance of landing the new Thursday Night NFL package, which could fetch up to $800 million. It is doubtful that the NFL will get anything close to that figure.
  • 2014 Emmy Awards to air in August:
    With NFL taking up Sundays in September, NBC will air the 2014 EMMY AWARDS on Monday, August 25th.
TUESDAY:
  • ABC renews low rated summer series:
    The game show BET ON YOUR BABY has been picked up for a second season, on ABC. The show will have Melissa Peterman as the host.
  • FOX renews BONES:
    Crime drama BONES has been picked up for a 10th season by FOX. 
  • FOX movie schedule around:
    The network also announce that the series is moving back to Mondays, starting on March 10. Going to Fridays will be the return of KITCHEN NIGHTMARES, premiering February 28th. ALMOST HUMAN has five episodes left and will finish up on February 3rd.
  • SYFY orders 26 more episodes:
    Scripted series HAVEN received a 26 episode order for the series' fifth season. The first 13 episodes will premiere this fall, with the remaining episodes airing in 2015.
WEDNESDAY:
  • Two stations, one channel:
    Los Angeles stations KLCA and KJLA have agreed to be the test subjects to see if two separate stations can broadcast on the same channel. If successful, it could open up spectrum for 4G wireless services. [LINK]
  • NBC ends sitcom:
    Freshmen comedy SEAN SAVES THE WORLD was cancelled and production shut down by NBC. [LINK]
THURSDAY:
  • NFL to launch new channel:
    The NFL announced that it will be launching the channel NFL NOW in the summer of 2014. The channel will be a customizable, personal streaming service that the user can "program." The channel will be available via mobile apps and streaming devices. 
  • CBS and Amazon extend agreement:
    CBS and Showtime vaults will find themselves on the Amazon Prime service for years to come.
  • Verizon talking with TV makers about LTE multicast programming:
    Verizon Wireless is talking with consumer electronic manufacturers about adding its LTE Multicast programming to TVs, devices and set top boxes. [LINK]
  • R.I.P. IntoNow:
    Yahoo has closed down the second screen, social TV application IntoNow. The app has been pulled from downloading and the service, for existing app users, will shut off on March 31, 2014.
  • WGN acquires exclusive off-network series:
    WGN America has acquired the exclusive off-network rights to the crime drama ELEMENTARY.
  • TOP CHEF gets a 12th season:
    Bravo has renewed the long running cooking competition series TOP CHEF for a 12th season.
FRIDAY:
  • More CHICAGO PD:
    NBC has ordered two more episodes this season, for the freshman series.
  • Dish unveils portable antennas:
    Dish with have two models available for subscribers to receive their channels outside the home. The cost will be $449 to $549. [LINK]
