Ratings: Broadcast Finals for February 25, 2014
ABC kicked off a new series on Tuesday night, the feelgood drama MIND GAMES, starring Christian Slater and Steve Zahn. This marks series number five for Slater, since 2008, and by the looks of the premiere ratings, number six is not too far off.
The premiere drew just 3.6 million viewers and a 1.1 rating in Adults 18-49. It lost over 55% of the lead in audience that THE BACHELOR delivered to it, at 10 p.m. It looks as if audiences wanted no part of MIND GAMES, not even to give it a test run. Expect a cancellation of the series within two weeks from today (March 12).
Moving to a new day and time, GLEE completely laid an egg. The fourth year dramedy posted just three million viewers and a 1.2 rating in Adults 18-49. This is worse than the recently concluded sitcom DADS was pulling in at the top of the 8 p.m. hour. Unfortunately, FOX still has another FULL season of this TV turkey, so viewers are stuck with it. This will continue to hurt the already struggling sitcoms, at 9 p.m., which posted near series lows last night.
CBS won the night in total viewers as all three dramas were in original episodes. However, all three dropped considerably from the last time they aired original episodes, on February 4th. The network averaged dropped 2.5 million viewers and 12% in the A18-49 ratings, from three weeks earlier.
NBC may have had it's total viewer streak stopped but it continues to the streak of 20 straight days of being the top network in the A18-49 ratings. A healthy dose of THE VOICE helped push repeats of the premiere episodes of ABOUT A BOY and GROWING UP FISHER. Both sitcoms drew similar numbers as their late evening premieres, this past weekend. If anything, the two comedies will get sampled, but will the ratings be true or inflated, as was the case with last year's GO ON and THE NEW NORMAL?
