Ratings: Broadcast Finals for January 6, 2014
The holidays are over and the networks are slowly getting back to normal programming. ABC takes the first monday of the new year with it's new season of THE BACHELOR being the #1 show of the night.
The long running reality dating series hauled in just under 8.7 million viewers and a solid 2.7 rating in Adults 18-49. The viewer totals are down about 30% from what DANCING WITH THE STARS would pull in, but the A18-49 ratings are about 30% above what the dancing competition series can now generate. THE BACHELOR may take a bit of a hit once the CBS comedies are back in action, but the real test will be the two weeks opposite the Winter Olympics, next month.
CASTLE was well below it's average for a new episode. It is off by more than 2.5 million viewers and 19% in the demo, from it's last original episode on November 25, 2013. Although CASTLE can hold its own, to some extent, it is still lead in dependent for good ratings.
CBS said farewell to HOSTAGES with a two hour block, including the season/series finale. Ratings were around what it had been getting the last couple of months, but no up tick for the finale. I do not expect another season of the series or anything closely connecting another series to it.
