Classic TV Ratings and Rankings: 1983-84
CBS is the dominate network for the 1983-84 season, taking the top two spots with DALLAS and 60 MINUTES, respectively. The network posted a total of 15 series in the top 30, equalling the previous season. Things are going smoothly at the Tiffany Network.
ABC is still sliding from it's recent success, placing just nine programs in the top 30, down two from last season. Gone from the list are HAPPY DAYS, THREE'S COMPANY and BENSON. In fact, of the nine series on the list, just six are regular developed series. A lot of the network's success is from Movie Nights and Football.
NBC is slowly moving up, grabbing two more top 30 shows, for a total of six. A-TEAM is leading the church for the network, cracking the top 5 at the #4 position. It will still be a few years before COSBY and CHEERS lead the way to Must See TV on NBC.
Two freshmen series made the top 10. CBS with the sitcom KATE & ALLIE and ABC with drama HOTEL. NBC's top new show was the classic TV BLOOPERS & PRACTICAL JOKES. AFTERMASH was the #15 show of the season, but would be ton by the end of the following season.
Notable new shows outside the top 30 are NIGHT COURT, THE DUCK FACTORY which features a young Jim Carrey and the classic series flop MANIMAL.
