Ratings Review: FOX Sundays - First 2 Weeks
Four weeks into FOX Sunday nights and only two weeks of original episodes of been aired by the "Animation Domination" block.
The animation block did not premiere a week early, like most of the FOX schedule did this fall and with MLB Playoff baseball no new episodes have aired since October 6th and will not air until November 3rd.
THE SIMPSONS have been the stronger series, of the four, so far. But, it had the great lead in on Premiere Sunday, with THE OT delivering over 10 million viewers. The second week, was the annual Halloween episode (Tree House of Horrors) of the series, so even without an NFL boost, the ratings went up for THE SIMPSONS. It is a good sign that viewers are still in touch enough with the series to know when the annual episode will air and could be a great opportunity to regrow the viewer base. Quite frankly, after NFL football, there is not much to really watch during the 8 p.m. hour.
The rest of the night has maintained its ratings from its premiere. There is a loyal fan base for the night and FOX needs to count on that and build from it. This is an old night for FOX. The Simpsons are older than most of its viewers are and FAMILY GUY has been around since the 1999. AMERICAN DAD is in its 10th season, while BOB'S BURGERS is the youngster of the bunch, now in its 4th season. As the block get older, it's net viewership grows smaller and smaller. Its A18-49 ratings is all that keeps it around and that too, is getting smaller and smaller.
New life is needed for the night. Something that can also pump new life into THE SIMPSONS and, perhaps, FAMILY GUY. DAD and BOB are not the answer for FOX.
