TV News Roundup: Week of September 16, 2013

The week before the official start of the 2013-14 TV season includes news on even more zombie series, even more SNL cast members and even more MAD MEN episodes to be produced.

MONDAY:
  • More Zombies:
    AMC is developing a companion series to THE WALKING DEAD, presumably in the same "universe" as the hit series. A 2015 target date has been scheduled. 
  • New SNL cast members:
    SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE announced six new cast members starting this fall, including the Beck Bennett (AT&T w/ kids commercials). [LINK]
  • The CW to air awards shows:
    The network will cover the Critics' Choice Movie Awards and the Critics' Choice TV  Awards. The first up is the Moive Awards, in January 2014.

TUESDAY:
  • More MAD MEN coming:
    AMC has upped the final season episode order of MAD MEN to 14 episodes. But, like BREAKING BAD, the final season will be broken up and aired separately.
  • My Network TV continues:
    FOX TV has extended My Network TV through the 2015-16 TV season.
  • Werewolves coming to SYFY:
    The cable network has acquired the Canadian import werewolf series BITTEN from Entertainment ONE. The series is about a lone female werewolf.
WEDNESDAY:
  • BBC shows coming to Hulu:
    Hulu has struck a deal with BBC Worldwide to bring nearly 150 show titles to the streaming service. However, the deal is not exclusive and some title can still be watched on Netflix and Amazon Prime.
  • BONNIE & CLYDE mini-series to be simulcast:
    Multiple A&E networks will air the upcoming BONNIE & CLYDE mini-series, including A&E, History and Lifetime.
  • AEREO launches in a new market:
    If you live in Houston, AEREO is now available in your market. Next is Dallas on Monday, Sept. 23.
THURSDAY:
  • Johnny Carson mini-series in the works:
    NBC is developing a miniseries on the life of Johnny Carson, based on the book "Carson the Magnificent: An Intimate Portrait."
  • COPPER axed:
    The BBC America series COPPER has been cancelled after two seasons.
  • Spike TV gets its Mummy:
    Spike TV is developing a limited scripted series on Tutankhamun titled TUT. A premiere date has not been released.
FRIDAY:
  • Univision to go public?:
    The #1 Spanish language TV network is considering an IPO sometime in mid-2014. It is estimated to be around $1.25 billion. Univision owns, the Univision TV network Unimas TV Network and several radio staions. [LINK]
  • TNT cancels frshman drama:
    The new series KING & MAXWELL was cancelled by TNT after just one season.
