Ratings: Broadcast Finals for September 26, 2013
It took them four days, but CBS finally dominated a night of premiere week. Obviously, the #1 show... and #2 of the night was THE BIG BANG THEORY. The double episodes drew a combined average of about 19.5 million viewers and a 5.8 rating in Adults 18-49. Last year, the one episode drew 15.7 million viewers and a 5.0 demo rating.
Feeling the love of its lead in, new sitcom THE CRAZY ONES held onto 76% of the audience to deliver 15.5 million viewers. However, it did lose over 35% of the A18-49 viewers. this is about 1.5 million more viewers and more than a full ratings point growth in the demo, from last year's PERSON OF INTEREST PREMIERE. But, expect much lower numbers next week as THE MILLERS will buffer THE CRAZY ONES from THE BIG BANG THEORY.
Showing its age, TWO AND A HALF MEN lost about 25% of its lead in audience and drew just a 2.9 demo rating. Hopefully, this will be the last season of the series.
Rounding out the night for CBS was second year detective drama ELEMENTARY. It was the #1 show at 10 p.m., in total viewers, with 10.2 million. That tops GREY'S ANATOMY by about one million viewers. But, GREY'S ANATOMY did have about 50% more viewers in the A18-49 demographic than ELEMENTARY. ELEMENTARY was off from last years premiere by 3.1 million viewers and a full ratings point in the A18-49 ratings.
Thursday night was the first night NBC looked like NBC of last year. It was a distant 4th place in both reported categories. PARKS & REC posted its lowest ever premiere with just 3.3 million viewers and a 1.3 demo rating. THE MICHAEL J. FOX SHOW did do relatively well, but is currently the lowest rated fall comedy premiere in NBC History.
PARENTHOOD closed out NBC's night with its lowest season premiere ever. Just 5.1 million viewers and a 1.6 rating in Adults 18-49. Last year, the series drew 5.5 million viewers and a 1.9 demo rating, out of THE NEW NORMAL, on Tuesday night.
FOX gave us the much anticipated season premiere of GLEE and did it disappoint. Just 5.1 million viewers and a 2.0 demo rating placed in in 4th place for the hour. That's over 2 million viewers lost and 1/3 of the demo rating gone, from 2012's premiere.
