Ratings: Broadcast Finals for May 23, 2013
It may be the first day after the 2012-13 regular season ended, but that does not mean that original programming can't be found. Both ABC and FOX scheduled nothing but original episodes of summer programs, while NBC aired two hour of fresh content. Only CBS and The CW were 100% encores.
FOX won the night in the A18-49 ratings on the strength of summer favorite, HELL'S KITCHEN. The show pulled in a 2.2 rating, tied for the top spot of the night, with THE BIG BANG THEORY. It was also the only original program to pull in a demo rating over a 1.5.
ABC gave us three full hours of originals, including the season premiere of the veteran summer series ROOKIE BLUE. The series pulled in 6 million viewers and a 1.2 demo rating, winning its time slot in both viewers and A18-49 demo ratings.
CBS, with a night filled with encore episodes of their Thursday night favorites, won the night in total viewers, with 6.7 million. This is one of CBS' strengths over the other network, as most of its series pull in relatively strong numbers while in repeats. But these numbers will dwindle as the summer continues.
NBC gave us the summer burn-off sitcom SAVE ME and, as expected, the ratings fell flat. Just over 3 million viewers stayed for the two episode premiere of the series. The numbers are only slightly down from the network's usual sitcoms in the 8 p.m. hour.
