Ratings: Broadcast Finals for May 19, 2013
ABC easily takes Sunday night on the strength of three hours of +The 2013 Billboard Music Awards.
THE 2013 BILLBOARD AWARDS drew the night's top A18-49 rating, with a 3.6, over the full three hours. This caps off a year of awards show performing well all season long, Starting with the Emmy's in September, through the Golden Globes, Oscars and Grammys. Awards programs did well on both broadcast TV and cable TV.
Four series had their season finales, starting off with THE CELEBRITY APPRENTICE, on NBC. The D-list reality series drew just 5.3 million viewers and a 1.5 demo rating. It was surprising that NBC actually renewed this series for next season. Hopefully NBC will do well with all its new series and the 2014 of THE CELEBRITY APPRENTICE will be pushed to next summer.
FOX closed the season on three of its five animated comedies, THE CLEVELAND SHOW, THE SIMPSONS and FAMILY GUY, The latter two finales did well, but are far from the hit series there once were, a few years back. THE CLEVELAND SHOW, in the 7 p.m. hour, was nothing more than burn-off for FOX. But, it is interesting that the 9:30 p.m. FAMILY GUY finale dropped viewers from its 9:00 p.m. episode. I think the fans of FAMILY GUY are just used to clicking TV off at 9:30, thinking AMERICAN DAD is on next.
