Ratings Archives: Week of December 29, 1997
For the second week in a row, ABC takes the #1 spot with football, this week, it is The New Year's Day Rose Bowl Post-Game show. The program drew just under 28 million viewers and grabbed 20% share of the audience during that 16 minute time slot. Following that was the Sugar Bowl. That game drew just 17.4 million viewers, placing 7th for the week. The only other two programs ABC put into the top 20 were 20/20 (13) and HOME IMPROVEMENT (#14).
New Year's Day Bowl games didn't slow down NBC and Must-See-TV. Still in repeats, the five programs of the night drew a minimum of 15 million viewers, with SEINFELD pulling over 21 million... for a repeat. Only the 8:30 program (NEWS RADIO) did not place in the top 20 for the week.
CBS had a good week, placing three shows in the top five, lead by family favorite TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL (#2) with 25.4 million viewers. It was a new episode for the drama. CBS also aired the Orange Bowl on Jan 2 and it pulled in 15.9 million viewers, ranking #5 for thew week. The fourth top 10 CBS program was the Sunday Movie SCATTERING DAD (#10).
The only consistent original programming came after New Year's Day, with Saturday and Sunday providing the bulk of the original programming hours.
